Re: Application to be considered for the position of IT & Telecom’s or Network Engineer
I am pursuing Msc. Information Systems & Project Management from the University of Liverpool and will be graduating by mid next year but am through with course work right now taking my dissertation project. I am a Diploma holder from Jomo Kenyatta University in Information Technology with qualification emphasis in Computing, Technical Support and Maintenance of computerized Information Systems. I am a trained Cisco Instructor and a holder of CCNA 1-4 (ver. 3.0) from African Advanced Level Telecommunications Institute (AFRALTI) which is a Cisco Regional Academy and ITU standards Centre. Currently I am working for CDW Corporation (UK) as a field network and telecommunications engineer for our client company Tullow Oil & Gas B.V. I have worked with Holy Rosary as a System/ Network Administrator with their computerize ICT centre of about 100 computers and 3 Servers running UNIX / LINUX (Debian 3.0, Fedora core 3, 4) connected on a VSAT link.
I have worked with Maseno University a public university here in Kenya for one year as an Instructor in their Cisco Networking Academy and System / Network Administrator of the Maseno Institute of Technology Centre (MITC department) on a network hosting around 300 users and their Servers running Linux/Unix. Their desktop machines are running under different windows platforms such as 98/ 2000 professional/ XP and NT4, Linux etc. I am a trained VSAT Field Engineer by Comsatpro in conjunction with African eDevelopment Resource Centre Nairobi. I have trained with Huawei Technologies Co, Ltd in conjunction with Maseno University (in house) on Installation and configuration of Voice, Video and Data conferencing on their conferencing products such as MCU, GK (Server) and view point Cameras.
I have worked with KEMRI/CDC Research & Public Health Collaboration as a Network Engineer on their heterogeneous ICT system of more than 1000 users both Nairobi and Kisumu, my duties were to plan, analyze, recommend, install, repair and support the network infrastructure, including computer and peripherals, printers, routers, switches, firewalls, VSAT, data and voice communication lines and internet connectivity, to Liaison with, and escalation to, network service providers, ISP Atlanta ITSO and Americom, administer the Siemens PABX, to interpret, enforce, and amend relevant standard operating procedures, maintenance of Equipment including Network & Devices. i.e. RADwin, Computers, Printers, Monitors, UPSs, Digital PABXs installations, administration, Laptops, FAX machines, Telephone Lines, IP Phones, CDC WAN/LAN Installation, Network (LAN/WAN Devices – Cisco/Microwave/Radios) Administration, Monitoring and Administration of Lease Lines – Kisumu (CDC)Nairobi links, CCTV cameras especially from polycoms, Tandberg and Access Control Systems and monitor the wireless links running on a microwave/canopy links.
